Language Arts
1. Secret Life of Bees – High school students wrote their reactions, responses, and research to the book. The author joined in on the conversation!
2. My Name is Meredith, Meredith’s Page – Student blogs for a journalism class (Meredith’s Page uses a News Feed from Google for her topic)
3. Student Newspaper – Frances Harris, a librarian at the University Laboratory High School in Urbana, says the blog site at her school allows students to comment and interact with the student newspaper.
4. North River School Blog – 7th Grade Class Blog. Using 21Publish, students each have their own blog within this class blog to comment on news articles.
5. Room 132 – Mr. Pettris set up this blog for his students to submit writing.
6. St. Xavier School – Using Blogmeister, students have individual blogs for their writings. Teacher blog can be publically viewed but individual student blogs require a password.
7. Scholastic News Blog – News by Student reporters. Applications for the 2008-2009 school year due Oct. 10

1. Pre-Calc – Math teacher who uses his weblog as a starting point for introducing new concepts, share links and a forum for discussion.

1. Secret Creature Blog – “There is a scientist and environmental children’s author living on an island near Washington State named Ron Hirschi who sent us a piece of sea creature in a box with clues to help my 1st graders identify what it was,” Newton said. “We blog back and forth with him, and my kids sent him things with clues to see if he could identify them.” (Cindy Newton)
2. The Polar Science Project – “The project blogs were one of many communication tools we used to give students the opportunity to interact with Canadian scientist Dr. Thomas Hawke, as he conducted research on the aerobic capacity of Weddell seals in Antarctica. ”
3. Butterfly Blog – First grade class journal on the life cycle of their butterflies.
Social Studies
1. North River School Blog – 7th Grade Class Blog. Using 21Publish, students each have their own blog within this class blog to reflect on their independent reading.
General
1. St. John’s School – Using LearnerBlogs.org, 6th graders set up their own individual blogs. Teacher gives writing assignment prompts.
2. The Write Weblog – 5th grade Anne Davis has individual blogs for her students to chronicle their learning about writing.
3. Room 613 Student Blog – 6th grade students use Learnerblogs to write about their learnings. Postings are categorized so they can be sorted by topic or student. See “How to set up a student centered classroom blog” for directions on how the teacher set this up.
