(Back to Education as a Conversation Blog)
Educators’ Guide to Blogs (available online or face-to-face)
Using the Internet is a natural part of life for today’s youth. In a recent study, students reported that they view the Internet as “as virtual locker, backpack, and notebook.” Education, however, has not yet taken advantage of the new ways students communicate and access information over the Internet. One such way is through a Blog. This workshop explores the concept of Blogs, their educational applications and guidelines for their use. The following questions will be expored:
1. What is a Blog?
2. What kinds of Blogs are there?
3. What are the pros and cons of using Blogs?
4. How can I create my own Blog?
5. How can my students use blogs to enhance their learning?
Learning with the Read/Write Web (topics available as an overview, individually, or in a series)
The ability to not only read content on the web but to publish instantly has changed the way students learn and interact with each other. This workshop(s) explores the toolbox available for teaching and learning: weblogs, wikis, social bookmarking, online photo gallaries, and audio/video casting.
